ELECTROLIQUID AGGREGATION

Louis Kahn

Concept: Louis Kahn strategically positions his architecture in the landscape to remind people of their scale

Landscape: Originally I was going to have Kahn's monument hanging over a cliff next to a large waterfall, however I have decided to place the moment in the middle/ around a waterfall and planted half in a lake. This is to portray the concept of scale so when visitors are to go to the monument they understand Kahn's relationship with the site and land-form.

Path: The path leading to the monument was originally going to go through a large waterfall, once again to remind people of their scale and to reflect on Kahn's nature of dominance through his architecture, However, now that the monument is placed in the middle of a large body of water, it is now representing Kahn's dominance through purity. Therefore, the paths lead across large rock ledges out to the bottom and middle platform.

Santiago Calatrava

Concept: Calatrava's importance of light and shadow throughout different times of day.

Landscape: The monument is to hang over a body of water so the reflection of the monument can be seen (representing Calatrava's architecture). The is also a large rock wall which has been strategically placed so at sunset the shadow of the monument looks to be 'set in stone' in the rocks. Through this concept, it has also been used to represent that Calatrava, still being alive, will progress in his architecture therefore his work will "move throughout time" which has been portrayed through these shadows from the "different times of day."

Path: The path will come out to the moment lined with trees to portray Calatrava's structure and symmetrical simplicity.

ElectroLiquid Aggregation

Concept: The monuments have been strategically placed to portray dominance through reminding people of their scale whilst conveying the importance of light through different times of day to reflect this idea of scale through the use of shadows.

Landscape: The landscape has been combined to consider both Kahn's and Calatrava's architectural styles and creativity. There will be both large and small waterfalls so the idea of scale can be recognized further. The use of shadows through times of day is also an important factor as from sunrise to sunset, different shadows will be used to convey different meanings. Whereas shadows portray Calatrava's growing architecture and how his life will still progress through architecture, Kahn's shadows represent the transience of time as the shadows will reflect over water, onto the grass and onto the mountain to represent his use through different sites of land forms.

Path: The path connecting each monument is through an invisible prism which cuts through Calatrava's to create a new shadow, and forms a window in Kahn's monument so they can look across to Calatrava's monument. I have kept these monuments separate as both have such unique work and Kahn who isn't alive anymore can have separate recognition for his achievements.
